Mumble
What is Mumble?
Mumble is a voice chat system designed for low-latency voice chat. It’s specifically aimed at voice chat while gaming.
There are many Mumble servers in the world but the Saintnet one is located at mumble.saintnet.tech
Accessing Mumble
The recommended way of accessing Mumble is through the client, which you can download here. I’m also working on a web version that would be accessed at https://mumble.saintnet.tech but that’s a WIP.
There are also mobile apps for both Android and iOS available but I won’t cover those since I don’t use them.
Using the Mumble client
First time start up
The first time you start up the Mumble client it will most likely ask you to do two things: generate a certificate and run the Audio Wizard. The certificate is used for authenticating to Mumble; you don’t really have to worry about it too much, just use “Automatic Certificate Generation”. If you have a Saintnet account you’l’l actually be using that anyway.
The Audio Wizard is a brief thing that tunes Mumble to pick up your voice better. It’ll ask you to set your Input and Output devices, as well as a few things like “Audio Latency” and “Voice Activation Level”. You can leave latency as is (though you can also experiment with lowering it) and go through the Activation level steps, which are mostly just “Set lower bound for picking up my voice”, etc.
Connecting to Saintnet Mumble
Once you’ve done the first time start up, connecting to the server is easy. If the “Server Connect” window isn’t already open, go to Server -> Connect, then press the “Add New” button.
It’ll ask you for your username: either enter your Saintnet username or pick whatever you want. If you’re not using your Saintnet account you can change the username later. After that, enter the following info:
Address: mumble.saintnet.tech
Port: 64738
Username: (your username)
Label: (Whatever you want, I use “Saintnet”)
It will then ask you for a passsword. This is the Server Password, which you can find on Guildgate or simply ask someone. Afterwards, if you’re trying to login with a Saintnet account it will ask for another password: This is where you enter your Saintnet password.
